Algae, Mold, and Lichen Cleaning and Prevention

Various types of fungus can accumulate on your roof. Using a low-pressure hose, Gorilla Roofing and Construction gently washes the shingles in order to avoid shingle damage. After cleaning, a zinc strip can be applied to the ridge of the roof to assist in preventing the algae, moss, and lichen from coming back.

Gorilla Roofing and Construction also offers pressure washing services for your driveway, patio, deck, and siding.

There is no scientific evidence that algae is damaging to asphalt shingles, although it does affects the aesthetics.

Unlike algae, moss can be detrimental to shingle performance. Moss can cause the edge of the shingles to curl. This increases the risk of your shingle blowing off during a high wind storm.

Lichen is a combination of algae and fungus and usually has a light, mint-green color. It can be acidic and has strands that can penetrate into the shingles.
